Bath time should be one of the loveliest parts of the day — but for many families it comes with tears, stinging eyes and a slippery, unhappy baby. The fix is rarely about doing more; it's about doing it gently. Here's how to build a calm, tear-free bath routine.
Why baths can upset babies
- Water that's too warm (or a cool room) feels uncomfortable.
- Harsh, foaming soaps can sting eyes and strip delicate skin, leaving it tight and dry.
- An over-long bath can tire little ones and dry the skin.
The tear-free bath routine
1. Set the scene
Warm (not hot) water, a warm room, and everything within reach before you start, so baths stay short and unhurried.
2. Use a genuinely gentle, tear-free wash
This is the big one. Janma's Head-to-Toe Foam Wash is tear-free and ultra-gentle — a soft, sulphate-free lather with soothing aloe vera and oat extract that cleans without stripping. For older babies and toddlers, the Kids Gentle Body Cleanser with cucumber and turmeric is a lovely step up.
3. Keep it short, then seal in moisture
5–10 minutes is plenty. Pat dry and, within a few minutes, smooth on the Hydrating & Soothing Lotion to lock in moisture while skin is still slightly damp.
4. Wind down
Dim lights, a gentle massage and a consistent order of steps tell your baby that calm and sleep are coming.

Frequently asked questions
How often should I bathe my baby?
For most babies, 2–3 baths a week is plenty in the early months — more in hot, humid weather. Daily top-and-tail cleansing is gentle in between.
Is the foam wash really tear-free?
Yes — it's formulated to be tear-free and gentle. As always, avoid getting any wash directly in the eyes.
What if my baby still cries at bath time?
Try a shorter, warmer bath and a predictable routine. If distress continues or your baby seems unwell, check in with your paediatrician.
Janma is a cosmetic baby & junior skincare range. Individual results vary.
